Kigali Security helps homeowners, landlords and businesses get the right security systems in Kigali without guesswork. We arrange supply and installation through vetted installers for CCTV cameras, electric fences, alarm systems, access control and video intercoms, solar power and inverter backup, and water tanks with pumps. Every job starts with a site survey at your property, followed by a written quote you can compare and question.

Many people searching for security companies in Rwanda really want two things: a property that is harder to break into, and a system that keeps working when the power goes off or the water is cut. That is why we cover security and power together. A camera system with no backup power records nothing during an outage. A water pump with no backup stops when the grid does. Planning them as one project usually costs less than fixing gaps later.

What we install

  • CCTV installation: wired and IP camera systems with a recorder, remote viewing on your phone and night vision for compounds, shops and offices.
  • Electric fences: wall-top and free-standing fences with an energiser, alarm output and warning signs.
  • Alarm systems: motion sensors, door contacts, sirens and phone alerts for homes and businesses.
  • Access control and video intercoms: gate intercoms, card and fingerprint readers, and electric locks.
  • Solar power and backup: solar panels, inverters and batteries to keep lights, internet, cameras and pumps running.
  • Water tanks and pumps: storage tanks, stands, rainwater harvesting and booster pumps.

If you are mostly comparing prices, our CCTV camera price guide for Rwanda explains what drives the cost. If you are starting from zero, read our home security guide for Kigali first.

How it works

  1. Request a survey. Fill in the form on this page with your property type, location and the services you are interested in. A WhatsApp number is enough to start.
  2. Site survey. An installer visits, walks the boundary, checks entry points, wall height, power supply and internet, and notes where cables can run.
  3. Written quote. You receive an itemised quote listing equipment, brands, quantities, labour and any civil work, so you can compare like with like.
  4. Installation. Work is scheduled at a time that suits you. Most home systems are installed in one to a few days, depending on size.
  5. Handover. The installer shows you how to use the system, sets up phone apps, and gives you passwords, warranty details and a contact for support.

Typical packages by property

Every property is different, but these combinations come up often in Kigali. Use the table as a starting point for the conversation, not as a fixed menu.

Property Common setup Why
Family house in a walled compound Electric fence on the wall, 4 to 8 cameras, gate intercom, inverter backup Covers the perimeter, the gate and power cuts
Apartment Video door phone, smart lock or alarm on the main door Limited space, focus on the entrance
Shop or restaurant Cameras over tills and entrances, alarm with panic button Deters theft and records incidents
Office Card or fingerprint access, cameras at reception and exits, UPS or solar backup Controls who enters and keeps systems online
Warehouse or construction site Long-range night vision cameras, alarm, perimeter fence, water tank Large areas and valuable stock or materials

Rules worth knowing

Security and power work touches a few Rwandan rules. We point them out so you can ask the right questions.

  • Electrical work: the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) issues electrical installation permits in classes A, B, C, D and Z. Class D covers specialised installations including solar systems and generator sets. Permits are valid for three years.
  • CCTV and privacy: Law No. 058/2021 on the protection of personal data and privacy came into force on 15 October 2021. It is supervised by the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA), and organisations that process personal data must register with it.
  • Guards: private security companies are licensed and supervised by Rwanda National Police under Law No. 16bis/2020, and guards must complete at least three months of training at a police-approved centre.
  • Rainwater: Rwanda's green building rules make rainwater harvesting a mandatory item for buildings, and Kigali authorities have set a minimum tank of three cubic metres for residential buildings.

Power cuts and running costs

Power has become a bigger part of security planning since electricity tariffs changed on 1 October 2025. According to the Rwanda Energy Group, households now pay RWF 89 per kWh for the first 20 kWh a month, RWF 310 for 20 to 50 kWh and RWF 369 above 50 kWh, before VAT and regulatory fees. Non-residential customers pay RWF 355 to 376. A solar and battery system can cover cameras, routers, lights and pumps, and trim the bill at the top tariff band.

Why use a survey first

Quotes made without a visit tend to miss things: a wall that is too low for a fence, a camera position facing the sun, no socket near the gate, or a tank stand that cannot carry the load. A survey catches these early. It also lets you see the installer's approach before you commit. We do not publish fixed prices, because equipment costs move with the exchange rate and supply. Areas we cover in Kigali

Installers work across all three districts of Kigali City: Gasabo (Kacyiru, Kimihurura, Nyarutarama, Kibagabaga, Kimironko, Gisozi, Remera), Kicukiro (Niboye, Gikondo, Kanombe, Kagarama, Rebero) and Nyarugenge (Nyamirambo, the city centre, Kiyovu, Nyakabanda). Commercial clients around the Kigali Special Economic Zone in Masoro and along the KN 5 Road and airport road corridors are welcome too.

Frequently asked questions

What does Kigali Security do?

We arrange supply and installation of security and power systems through vetted installers in Kigali: CCTV cameras, electric fences, alarms, access control and video intercoms, solar power and inverter backup, and water tanks with pumps. We start with a site survey and then send a written quote.

What happens during the site survey?

An installer visits your property, walks the boundary and buildings, checks entry points, wall height, power supply and internet, and discusses your budget. The survey is how we work out what you actually need before a written, itemised quote is prepared.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

Only a rough idea. The final cost depends on the number of cameras or metres of fence, cable runs, wall height, power supply and the brand you choose. A quote after the survey avoids surprises. Contact us for a current quote.

Are you a guard company?

No. We focus on electronic security and power systems. Manned guarding in Rwanda is provided by private security companies licensed and supervised by Rwanda National Police. Many clients combine a guard with cameras, an alarm and a fence.

Who does the electrical work?

Electrical installations in Rwanda are carried out under permits issued by the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA). Permits run in classes, and Class D covers specialised fields including solar systems. We ask installers to show their permit before work starts.

Do I need permission to record people on CCTV?

Rwanda's data protection law, Law No. 058/2021, covers information that identifies a person, which includes clear video of faces. Homeowners and businesses should point cameras at their own property, tell people that recording takes place and keep footage secure.

Which areas do you cover?

All of Kigali City, including Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge districts, from Nyarutarama and Kibagabaga to Kicukiro, Kanombe, Rebero and Nyamirambo. For projects outside Kigali, tell us the location in the survey form and we will confirm whether an installer can reach you.
